Our Story
Deerfield Equestrian Farm is owned and operated by Grant Field. Grant began his riding career in Ottawa at seven years old. Grant's family relocated to the Toronto area for business, but that did not change Grant's passion for show jumping. Progressing from his ponies to hunters and equitation and finally stepping into the international jumper ring, Grant has been a lifelong competitor and student of the sport. Grant started Deerfield Equestrian Farm in 1986 just north of Toronto. This home base allowed Grant to show across North America from Spruce Meadows to Wellington, Florida with time spent in Virginia, Ohio, Mississipi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Illinois, Georgia, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario at multiple venues and all levels of the sport. Grant has not only successfully competed himself in both the hunter and jumper rings as a professional, but has coached students of all levels from skills development upwards. Grant coached the Ontario Interprovincial Championships Team to a medal finish twice. In addition to his main focus of hunters, jumpers, and equitation students, Grant has also spent time coaching eventing students. Relocated to Russell, Ontario, Deerfield Equestrian Farm will have a soft opening August 1, 2019 and Grand Opening October 1, 2019. The facility offers 2 outdoor sand rings with a full competition level hunter course and a full competition level jumper course designed by Grant who is an Equine Canada Senior and FEI course designer. Twelve paddocks allow ample turn out with an Equicizer for inclement weather. A heated 60 x 185 indoor riding ring will allow year round readiness. A two mile training trail around the hay field doubles as a long hack or fitness training track.
